Ekiti State government, this afternoon, denied  rumours making the rounds of the purported resgnation of the State’s Deputy Governor, Mrs  Funmi Olayinka.

The news of the resignation of the number two Citizen of Ekiti State, went viral in the social media this afternoon, with some media houses adducing her actions to compications arising from cancer and other health challenges.

One of Nigerian’s fastest growing online tabloid, Nairaland, reported thus; “The Deputy Governor of Ekiti State has just resigned. She is suffering from a cancer related illness which has been preventing her from discharging her duties”.

Responding on behalf of the State government, Governor Kayode Fayemi’s Chief Press Secretary , Mr. Olayinka Oyebode, who spoke to our reporter on phone, dismissed the speculation asa figment of the the writers’ imagination, revealing that the Deputy Governor as he spoke with us was in her office.

While calling on the good people of Ekiti and the general public to ignore the speculation, Oyebode added that resignation is not a matter that can be concealed in secret, as the Nigerian constistution clearly outlines procedures of the resignation of every public servant.

He said the deputy Governor’s health is sound and that her recent photograph is on the governor’s website to clear the minds of those still in doubt.

“The Deputy Governor is right in her office as I speak with you. She was away from office because of the Christmas and New Year holidays. Most people are just retuning to their desks after the holidays,” Oyebode said.

He said there are procedures for resignation by a public office holder, adding that the Governor Kayode Fayemi has no idea about any resignation by his Deputy.

“Resignation is not something you do in secret. If the Deputy Governor wants to resign, she has to tender such a letter to the Governor and nothing like that has happened,” the Governor’s media aide said.

“There is nothing wrong with the Deputy Governor. Her current photograph is on the website for anyone to see. She is in good health,” Oyebode concluded.
